back up dvds

i wonder if anyone can help me please, i have been totallt fed up buying DVDS for my young son to use which after a few weeks are scratched and or broken so i thought i would get a dvd re writer then when i get a new one i can copy for him and keep the original fresh and new . this was installed yesterday with all the software etc. however, alot of the dvds i have tried to copy are copyrighted (quite rightly) however i was advised that there is something i can download to still enable me to copy them. hope this makes sense.
regards
dee

Re: back up dvds

There are a few bit's of software around, although the legality of these is a bit dubious and depends on interpretation of copyright law.

I'd suggest a for DVD copy software, or similar permutation.

DVDshrink

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/t.tarn/...ink32setup.zip

Edit - If the disc STILL Refuses to co-operate you may need to look for dvddecypter

Re: back up dvds

There are a few programs out that can do the job you require.

DVD shrink will do the job, dvd decrypter is another one and also clone dvd, which I find to get the best result, would be my recommendation.

Have a look over at http://www.videohelp.com/ for a full list of various differnt programs and help files that should guide you through.

Re: back up dvds

For any new dvd's you have that you want to backup, AnyDVD is a must, dvdshrink is ok but is no longer updated and will struggle with some of the newer protection on dvd's like sony arrcos and others. I would also suggest CloneDVD to run with AnyDVD, quick & simple.

FYI,
AnyDVD is a driver that runs in the background and removes the CSS & other protection from retail dvd's, if you don't have AnyDVD running then CloneDVD will not backup a copy protected DVD. You can get free trials of both software.
