webpage code

I wonder if anyone here can help

i have designed a webpage using frames. one at the top for a banner, 1 on the side for a menu and the main frame to display the content. i update the page every few days but the user keeps loading the page from cache and doesn't see the updates.

i tried putting in meta tags for forced refresh but can't get it to work within the frames.

is there any way to force the users pc to download directly from my server everytime they click a link within my site.

thanks

Re: webpage code

Have you tried looking at W3C Schools?

Re: webpage code

Its a user/browser issue rather a webpage one. If you've put a meta tag forced refresh in there correctly, then there isn't much you can do other than recommend that they change proxy, do a full refresh (usually a ctrl-F5 or shift-F5, rather than a regular F5)

BTW, for reference the proper code is:

<meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">

Also, you might want to try the stuff in here...

Re: webpage code

Not sure if any of these are of any use:-

<meta http-equiv="no-cache">

Or you could use the meta tag for expires, to always ensure that a newer copy is loaded:
<meta http-equiv="expires" content="Wed, 26 Feb 1997 08:21:57 GMT">

Or you could refresh the page automatically after a delay using the refresh meta:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3;URL=http://www.some.org/some.html">

Re: webpage code

thanks for the help

i have used that code.

does this work for the frames aswell?

is there any alternative i can use.

i saw a thing somewhere about cgi scripts and wondered if there was a way to make a script that would force the browser to display the updated page direct from the server.

Even on my own machine i have to refresh 2 or 3 times before i get the updated page and i have to refresh the frames individually.

thanks for any help.

Re: webpage code

You have to put the code on all the pages that load up into frames.

I used it a very long time ago and it worked.
