Exclamation Monitor or Card?

Just recently ive noticed some serious errors, my graphics card and monitor are approximately 3 1/2 years old.

My Graphics Card is NVidea FX5200 and my Monitor is an LG Flatron 915FT.

Now I know theres a problem as yesterday my screen froze up, all i could see is lots of green dots and in the background i could just make out my webpage, but i couldnt move the mouse cursor. after that the system just shutdown and the monitor was clicking on and off quickly as though i was pressing the power button on and off. To stop this i powered down the PC with the power switch at the back incase it damaged my monitor.

Today i installed my new Graphics card drivers as i noticed COD2 was a bit jerky. after about 3 hours on the PC surfing the net and chatting my system locked up, the display looked ok but things were out of sync and i couldnt move the mouse pointer.

I posted a few posts over past 2 weeks and wondering if they are all related, or could this be the monitor or graphics failing on me, or worse could my processor be failing?

Re: Monitor or Card?

More likely to be the gfx card than the tft - if you have another pc you could try the monitor on that to be sure. If anything though, it's likely to be a software / driver issue more than a hardware problem, could do with updating the chipset drivers or trying a vanilla install of XP to be certain- of course, if you get the same thing after reinstalling then get a new card. But- if you change card, and it's not a fault with the card, you'll get the same issues.

Re: Monitor or Card?

sounds like a temperature problem, check your fans (cpu, graphics card, psu & case as appropriate)

Re: Monitor or Card?

Agreed. Sounds like time for a little dust busting - but observe static precautions...

absolutely - a 'vacuum cleaner' nozzle can be a significant source of a potential static charge - and where there is a charge, there may be a discharge, or so they say

- so don't vacuum pc's - blow the dust away
