is there such a thing?
Hi all
does anyone know of a PCI card with 2 x PS2 connections on it. I want to use a PS2 stylee keyboard mouse on a system with all USB. But not use a converter cable/dongle etc.
Main reason is i need to ghost the drive onto other drives using Ghost 2003 but no matter what i try the USB keyboard/mouse will not get recognised, leaving me with a ghost menu and no way of selecting anything...
Strange cos it works fine on other all USB systems.... and i've tried everything - BIOS USB Legacy etc...
thaks in advance...

Re: is there such a thing?
How did you get into the BIOS then if the keyboard is not been recognised? On all the systems that I have worked with that ONLY have USB and no PS/2 - there is always a option for USB Keybaord or at least Legacy. I just booted a Ghost CD on my Dell (No PS/2 in sight) and the keyboard worked straight away.
Can you maybe try another keyboard (USB) ??

sorry, wasn't clear enuff! the USB keyboard works fine, its just that it doesn't work (nor does the mouse) from the Ghost (DOS) screen.
The machine is a DELL Optiplex GX520, all usb. I had no problems with my Dell GX280, also all USB...
I have also tried numerous keyboards and USB/PS2 converter dongles/cables but to no avail..... I really need to run ghost so i can image the hard drive onto an external drive...

Re: is there such a thing?
Sorry, I didn't notice you said USB keyboard as well as mouse, Tightscot. Only thing I can think of is get a card with a serial port on (which you definitely can get) and get an old serial mouse - can't remember, but you could probably get a serial port keyboard, too.
Incidentally, that's a good point from Mauldor - how do you access your BIOS with a USB keyboard? I would have thought that if the legacy USB option doesn't work for DOS, it wouldn't work in BIOS, either.

Re: is there such a thing?
Just tried with GX260 (similar I think) and only difference was Ghost 8 Boot floppy and i could access it all fine. In fact come to think of it, we have every dell range at work from GX50 all the way upto GX620 and we use ghost on them all to build them - which includes of course the USB Only Keyboard and mouse. My only advice really i can think of is: - Update the Bios for the Dell
- If possible, get a Different Version of Ghost Boot floppy - I know 7 & 8 work fine.
Oh and of course the Obivious Answer - Put the HD from the GX520 into the working dell and ghost it that way, after all you dont need to Boot any OS !!

Re: is there such a thing?
thanks for the responses... i'll try and use and older version rather than the 2003 version. failing that i'll see if a serial mouse will do the trick.... or a serial->ps2 dongle for the keyboard....
It's just that i need to build 30 of these GX520's and usually i build one, ghost as an image to an external USB hard drive and then image the remaining 29 pc's. Obviously i'd rather not build all 30 pc's from scratch!!
i'll let you know what... if anything.... works!

Re: is there such a thing?
Is there an option for USB Keyboard/Mouse Legacy in your BIOS, is it enabled?

Re: is there such a thing?
Ahhh now you mentioned a USB HD - I have a sneaky feeling this is casuing ghost to loose the USB Keyboard and Mouse.
Personally if it was me - this is what I would do, have the job done in next to no time:
1. Build One GX 520
2. Put HD into IDE0 and New blank HD on IDE2 (second IDE Channel)
3. Make a standard Boot ghost Floppy (USB Key, whatever)
4. Ghost one drive to another
5. Repeat for the rest of the drives
Job is done, no cards to buy, no messing with Serial etc..
