Laptop display driver problem

I have the following display adaptor in my laptop "ati mobility radeon 7000 igp"

When I plug my 'Pika one flycase 250GB USB hard drive' into it, after a while (time varies) I get a message that says that the display driver has stopped responding, Going from the 1024x768 32bit to 640x480 4 colours.

I've in the past reloaded the drivers (can find the right link now) but still it crashes.

Is this a IRQ conflict? I doubt this though

Any help would be gratful

(Catalyst 5.8 is this driver correct)

Re: Laptop display driver problem

It's unlikely that Catalyst drivers will be appropriate for your laptop, the ATI website doesn't even provide mobile drivers becuase they recommend getting them from your laptop manufacturer's site.

That would be my first port of call. What make and model is your laptop?

Re: Laptop display driver problem

I have a radeon 7500 in my laptop and I use the omega drivers.

http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Mind you - I do find it odd that gfx drivers would cause this problem

Solved Laptop display driver problem

I may have corrected it.

using the Toshiba forum 1 person suggested that I update by BIOS I put It of.

Today I got a alert that the post had a response I read it and the postee said that they had the exact same fault and after they updated there BIOS problem solved.

I download the update (2 versions available one via floppy, 1 via windows) the windows version
and double clicked on the .EXE the prog told me shut down all open applications (i did) it started to update then it shut doen my PC

I was starting to panic, this was my first and soon to be last BIOS update. but I boot in to life checked the Bios version and it had updated .

I plugged in the previously mentioned HD and I've had no crashes .
