Avast 7 Installs Google Chrome!

Just done an update to Avast 7 on my family desktop PC which has 5 User accounts on it, one of these user accounts had Google Chrome installed as a 2nd browser. After system reboot I found that Google Chrome has been installed at admin level and set as default browser across all 5 accounts!!!

When I installed Avast 7 earlier this year I recall having the option NOT to install Google Chrome, not aware there was any option with this latest update.

Anyone else had this problem, or was it just me not paying enough attention, i.e. getting my lunch while Avast update and PC reboot was going on?

I think you just missed the prompt. It is there.

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe I did, however I installed the same update on my laptop a few days ago and there was certainly no prompt then and neither did it install Google Chrome or make it default.

Some Googling suggests that it detected Chrome on the system and proceeded without prompting. Not sure if that is the case.

Re: Avast 7 Installs Google Chrome!

OK guys thanks for the replies.

I wasn't doing a reinstall, just an update! The experience will teach me to be more careful next time and watch over the update as I'm assuming the prompt timed out while I was away from the PC and proceeded with THEIR default setting as when I returned to the PC I just had the prompt on-screen to restart the system! Not difficult to sort out just annoying and time consuming!

There's an awful lot of similar downloads I've noticed recently - ccleaner has google taskbar unless you uncheck the box.

Very true, usually I'm very careful to do the custom installs and stop all the rubbish, but unfortunately this one seems to have got passed me during a simple update!
