I'd go for the R830 as it is more useful to me. Watch movies - need DVD reader, more RAM always useful but need 64bit O/S for more than 3GB.
Looks far less important to me than function. I like IBM/Levano Thinkpads because in inbuilt "mouse" has 3 buttons, useful in UNIX environments.
