Any backup`s you may have made or system restore?
You did make backup`s didn`t you?
Were they MP3`s? If so, search for MP3`s on your Hard drive.

You didn't make a backup? System restore wont help as that only really does system files not data.

You have no backup at all?

System Restore doesn't recover data files, you need some data recovery software...

Re: lost songs

Or just rip them again from the CDs ...you have those don't you? Ok it'll take a bit of time but you'll make a backup this time won't you?

Re: lost songs

Run some recovery software.
Piriform's Recuva is free and effective.

Re: lost songs

I'm glad it all worked out Ok for you in the end.

I'd get in the habit of backing up every few weeks, more often if you regularly add or make changes.

We now live in a world where we buy music online, have family digital photos, etc... Imagine losing it all. Worth backing up.

Actually, in Vista and Win7 the Previous Versions feature, which is a part of System Restore, will keep previous versions (!) of data files. There are a few file extensions it ignores (such as dvr-ms, wtv, mdb, pst) but it does work. It's saved me from a few brown trouser moments.

Re: lost songs

USB memory sticks are very useful for offline, totally portable backup. You just have to make sure not to lose them...as I have once or twice.

Currently I have two - one I use regularly, the other I copy new stuff to at least once a week and then put it safely away. That way I have two guaranteed copies, i.e. backup for the backup.
