Packard Bell B2218uk Problem

Dont know if anyone can help, I have a packard bell imedia b2218uk that has developed a problem. The computer powers up but the screen, mouse and keyboard have no power to them. Has anyone come accross this before or is there an easy solution to get it working again?

The screen should have a separate power supply. Do you see any power light from the screen such as an amber LED?
How do you know the computer is powering up? Do you have an optical mouse and if so does it have the red light showing underneath?

More data needed..

Lights come on and the fan goes round. Mouse has a optic light but it does not come on, Keyboard dosen't light up and the screen just goes into standby mode. Sounds like the base unit is working but nothing else does.

Re: Packard Bell B2218uk Problem

Hmmm. It's not possible to be certain with a fault like this but my best guess would be a failed motherboard. There's a slight possibility that it could be power supply failing but it's a tough one to diagnose remotely.

It may be worth trying a pull and remake on the system. With mains disconnected remove all items slotted into the motherboard such as ram or graphics card, brush out dust and crud from slots and refit. Check all cables are firmly in place, both power and data before trying to power on again.

If that fails I'm afraid it will need expert diagnosis.

Re: Packard Bell B2218uk Problem

I've had THREE Packard Bell machines that did this. PCWorld said each one was the processor that had failed and held onto the machines for weeks whilst "sourcing chips" then refunding me for all 3 "repairs" when they could not find them.

Our local PC shop fixed all 3 with mobo replacements in minutes. And a lot cheaper than PCWorld wanted!!
