MacBook Pro Battery

Hey guys, so having just had the battery and the hard drive replaced on my machine, I wondered if I could have some advice on how to get the maximum out of the battery. It came fully charged at 100%. Should I let it drop to 50% then charge, then let it completely drain and then fully recharge?

Thoughts?

Re: MacBook Pro Battery

Neither.

Best way to get the most out of it is to charge it when you need to charge it.

Then it makes no difference whether you charge it at nowt or half full. I'm still on the original battery in my 3 year old mbp and it's only just starting to lose capacity.

(actually it's nearly 4 years old which is not bad going... Pity the same can't be said for the build quality of the machine itself)

Re: MacBook Pro Battery

The best and only way imho that works is to not use your laptop plugged in all the time. Use the battery and charge it when it needs charging. If you want to run it off the mains then remove the battery.

If you have a Dell however, there's not much you can do. Most fail after a year regardless.

If you've got a 3-4 year old mpb and still have the original battery, you must be one of the very few out there. In fairness, Apple were very responsive when replacing mine though.

I know, it surprised me. The battery has actually lasted longer than the original charger/psu. My mbp only tends to get used at weekends and maybe one evening in the week so I guess that's why it's held out longer than many.

Re: MacBook Pro Battery

My MBP is 40 Months old and still has 93% of its capacity remaining... Apples EOL is apparently when the battery reaches 85%. I plan on upgrading when the machine reaches 5 years anyway so it should last that long!
