New headphones lead to disaster.

Just bought a new pair of Sennheiser HD 205's of Amazon for £33, had them about a week or so.

Tonight whilst unplugging them the Jack (Connector) on the end of the headphones snapped off and now remains inside the machine. It's a clean snap so there was no bending etc.

Says the headphones have a 2 year warranty but says the 1st year lies with the place I bought it from? Would this come under warranty and how would I go about doing that with Amazon?

I.T part

After reading the above, How on earth am I going to get the connector/jack out of the socket. I took the front cover off and unhooked the unit but the connector has a sealed back thus the only way in is through the front.

Re: New headphones lead to disaster.

Return them to Amazon as it is an obvious fault.

As for removing the jack plug from the socket, you may have to replace the socket if you are any good with a soldering iron.

Replacing the socket (never had to do that yet in this instance) or removing the broken connector shouldn't be up to you.. Contact amazon, tell them exactly what has happened.. They should replace the headphone (or refund) and also pay for a repair (or provide a repair) on the computer.

Tweezers spring to mind for removing small plugs from sockets?

Re: New headphones lead to disaster.

My trick in the workshops was to wrap a carefully shaped thin paperclip into the end of a soldering iron, let it get hot then insert it down the stalk, once in slide it off the soldering iron tip and allow to cool, then just slowly withdraw.. Just remember though that if you do this and get it wrong then amazon will know and will not attempt a repair

But it shouldn't be up to adzii to do as it's the products fault so should be up to amazon or the manufacturers.. If amazon tries to get out of the damage then contact trading standards

Re: New headphones lead to disaster.

Thanks for the replies guys, going to get in touch with Amazon and get it sorted. Going to take pictures of the Headphones and the socket with the piece stuck in and send as evidence. I'm just shocked at how I can go years with cheapy headphones without problem then I bump up the price and it falls off inside the machine.

Re: New headphones lead to disaster.

They were expensive anywhere else but I saw them at £33 and though why not give a proper pair of headphones a go.

Anyway Amazon replaced them straight away but I had already fixed the computer with a soldering iron and a new jack as peter suggested :P

Re: New headphones lead to disaster.

I saw a young black fella in London today - he had some of those complete over the head headphones on top of his bonce. They were gold. He looked like a right pillock....I thought he may have been part human / part Cyberman. What a tit.

It was the PC socket.
