I had the feeling that Vista was nothing else but a beta for Windows 7. The fact is that the beta of windows 7 ran better for me than the final edition of vista

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview - now available
Vista was actually ok for it's time - as long as the hardware was decent enough
Saying that though, now I'm on Windows 7 I don't like Vista as there enough edges that have been smoothed out in 7 to make going back on friend's machines a painful experience

But my overall impression of 8 is that unless you are on a touch device of some sort, all you are getting is a full screen Start Menu on top of W7.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview - now available
Just tried Windows 8 on VM workstation and i hate it, this is coming from someone who likes change but this is just too much and if it stays the same i will stay on Windows 7 as long as possible.
I truly think Windows 8 will bomb in its current form.

Got to agree totally. Having had bleeding-edge hardware at the time, Vista handled it a lot better than XP ever did (especially given XP-64 was really 'skinned' Windows Server).
Also agree on the Windows 8 part - it does handle my tablet laptop a lot better than 7 in touch mode but now I've broken the touchscreen there's really little point to it, even if there's still "pen-touch" input.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview - now available
They removed the start button between the last preview and this one. Unlikely they will be putting it back.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview - now available
well i don't really like it to be honest, this is too much change to process in just one version jump. they should have given it to us a bit slower.
Windows 7 is my fav operating system from Microsoft so far though.

Nope, on tablets there will be a 'Windows' button which will bring it up, so the same applies to laptops/desktops where most have a Windows key on the keyboard
Or you can faff around hovering over the bottom right

It's going to take something special to get me to drop Windows 7.
Windows 7 is the only microsoft OS i have found to be complete all the other had far to many bugs for my liking.
Windows 8 is for a phone as far as i am concerned.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview - now available
You have to start thinking outside the box, we had all this when motor manufacturers decided to do away with starting handles.
First you need to buy a touch screen monitor for your desktop, then you need to set up a rope and pulley to the ceiling with a sling for your arm to sit in else your arm will be dropping off after an hour or so, now bring the monitor closer so that you can reach it easily and after a few days your eyes will get used to the screen being in your face and there you go, simple.
The good news is that if you have the misfortune to break your arm you will still be able to use Windows 8 using the above equipment.
Now let's hear less negativity, you know it makes sense...

My feelings as well, Thankfully i can stay on windows 7.
Why do Microsoft decide to feck up stuff every now and then. You could remove the metro interface up to this release and now they have removed that option. Its a simple option for me ether they give me the option to remove the metro interface and work as i do now or i will not buy it and stay on good old Windows 7
