New Gpu

I'm looking to upgrade my integrated graphics (HD4250) to a dedicated GPU. I'm looking to play the occasional high end game/ watch a lot of videos etc. I would like it to be future proof... I have been looking on ebuyer at the HD6850 (£98) probably a bit too much for what I use my pc for but I can't see any other gpu's for that price/performance.
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Re: New Gpu

The GPU that you would need will depend on a few things to be honest.

What type of games?

What detail setting you want to run it at Low, Medium, High, Ultra?

What Resolution?

And lastly what the budget is?

Answer those and we can tell you the best option.

Sorry for my vagueness i don't really know alot about resolution etc i have a 19'' hd tv i use at 1024x768 don't know what resolution games would play at, as i usually use my 360... Games wise i would like to play all old and current games (batman, MW3, battlefield, the force unleashed etc) probably on medium to high settings!
I dont really want to spend more than 100 quid on it

Re: New Gpu

Go for the 6850 from Ebuyer that you mentioned, because anything that is better than it will cost over £100

Yep it does, I am just waiting for a new bank card to turn up so I can get a 2nd GTX 480 as there, is 1 on there at the moment for £105 but there is 3 days left on the bidding and I will bid but won't go above £180.

Re: New Gpu

Unless you want to spend more than £100 not really.

However if you don't mind going over then a Nvidia GTX 560 or a ATI 6870, the Nvidia card is slightly better but will cost around £140 and the ATI will cost around £110.

I would honestly look at getting a better screen before going for a gaming card in all honesty.

On the cards mentioned such as 560 or a 6850, you would be looking to game at 1920x1080 or a tad below to see any real benefit.

Anything 22" or above is what you should look for.

If your happy to stick to 1024x768 res, then pretty much any card around the £100 mark will do because your already bottlenecked as such.
