dv tape transfer adobe premiere? firewire (right framerate?)

hey guys
i hope you can help.
i have some dv tapes which i am capturing on to my computer via sony camera hvr-z1 (this wasn't used to record the footage)
i did the transfers but the quality isn't that great. its recorded on mini dv tape...i am using adobe premiere.

is there a way i can find out what frame rate the tapes were recorded in, so i can get the right settings in the programme?

i tried dv pal widescreen....but pictures seems to be slighly out of focus/blurred

please help

thanks

Re: dv tape transfer adobe premiere? firewire (right framerate?)

from Wikipedia....

Quote:
For video, there are two frame rate standards: NTSC, which shoot at 30/1.001 (about 29.97) frames per second or 59.94 fields per second, and PAL, 25 frames per second or 50 fields per second.
i believe the higher frame rate will be for interlaced video capture

Re: dv tape transfer adobe premiere? firewire (right framerate?)

When I capture anthing from my JVC Mini DV Camcorder I just plug the Firewire lead in and use Nero Vision to capture it.

I set it to .avi for the recording on to the pc, however this normally result's in a file size of around 50gb but the quality is is pretty good then I convert it down using Window's Live Movie maker.

Your issue with quality maybe down to the camera that was used to record the footage may not have been set to widescreen when recording, and so when you tell it to record on to your pc in widescreen it is stretching the image causing the blurring potentially.

Other than that I am not sure as I have not had any trouble with the method above but my camera for some reason won't do widescreen recording, so I just have to leave the videos in 4:3 rather than 16:9.

yes i am transferring via firewire (express card, laptop)
the footage is not as sharp as it should be..

i will have a look at letter box/widescreen setting and see if that makes a difference.
i might also try nero vision to capture the footage.
