wd passport hd not recongising on windows pc (it has content from a mac)

wd passport hd not recongising on windows pc (it has content from a mac)

my friend has transferred files over to my passport wd harddrive, he said it would format it so it will work on both a pc and a mac

i have tried to connect the drive to my laptop (windows) but its not recongising it. i have been to disk management i see the drive, but it doesnt let me assign a letter?

can anyone advise? (it has important content) and i only have a windows laptop...

Have you tried a different disk management tool, the one included with Windows is pretty useless for anything other than to format.

To be honest, it sounds like he's formatted it for Mac, rather than using FAT32 or NTFS.
