samsung hd tv not recognising samsung rv511 laptop via hdmi cable (no signal)

hi there

can you please help? i am having problems connecting my hd tv to my laptop via hdmi cable...my tv is against the wall and hdmi 3 slot is the only one i have access too...when i connect the cable, i am getting a 'no signal' message on the tv....

ive tried to check the settings on the tv and it seems fine...ánd also on the laptop, but i don't see any reason why it should work?

im not sure if anything needs to be activated/enabled? please help

i have managed to detect the samsung tv on the laptop as a second screen. ive tried duplicate display/extend display...but i am still getting no signal on the tv...this is so annoying...
