1 Laptop connecting to the net at a time (wireless)

Just wondering a friend at work has asked me to look at their modem (virgin network)

they aren't sure what make it is but told me its a few years old so I am thinking either the D link or the Netgear. I have the netgear one.

I'm calling round tomorrow to have a look and thought I would look for some answers here first before I get there. Is there any reason why the router will only let one laptop connect at a time through wireless?

I was either thinking of resetting the modem or having a look at some of the IP address that the modem is knocking out. I was told there are 3 laptops in the house so it seems a bit odd that it would be something related to the laptops rather than the router?

Is the DHCP IP address range set to allow more than one assignment?

Ah yeah forgot about that will check that out tomorrow I wont really know till I can take a peak at it but yeah that could be it. failing that I was going to reset the router see where that would take me.

Although they dont know anything about pc's really so I know they haven't touched the router settings. Would a router come set up like that? can't say I have ever come across that problem before though

No it wouldn't come set up like that.

Resetting sounds like a good first step, so long as they have a note of their connection details...

Well they wouldn't need to know the connection details would they? I would ask the laptop to search for a network and connect to the one in the house the "reset" of the router would also wipe the password at least that's how I remember mine working like that.

Guess that depends if they're on National or Cable...
