Upgrading RAM

I currently have a ASUS P7P55D-E LX motherboard and I'm using 2 x 2Gig RAM (http://www.ebuyer.com/178943-corsair...v4gx3m2a1333c9). I know my board can take a max of 16Gig. I was going to get another 2x2 gig ram modules for £20. I dont think I should do this as I will then have to replace all the modules to try and max the RAM. For £34 I can get 2x 4Gig (http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpar...C0B091A5CA7304).

I was thinking this is a better option of getting 2x4gig but does anyone else agree? If I get the 8gig RAM I will still have 2 empty slots can I just place my existing 2x2gig ram in those slots to bring the total RAM to 12 GIG RAM with the view of replacing the 2x2gig with 2x4Gig in the future.

Any pointers/thoughts about doing this on my custom built?

Re: Upgrading RAM

It will tell you exactly what you can do and what configurations in your Motherboard manual, however you will need to be running a 64 bit OS to take advantage of anymore than 2 gig.

Re: Upgrading RAM

4 gig is the max a 32bit op system can use although my old mobo showed it as 3.8 gig

---------- Post added at 19:34 ---------- Previous post was at 19:32 ----------

Just wondering why would you want more than 4 gig? have you actually looked at how much your system is using?

I have 4 gig, Idle I use around 24%

Re: Upgrading RAM

Exactly I was going to get another harddrive but until their prices come down I'll look at upgrading the rest of my kit.

Re: Upgrading RAM

You can remove the page file but it can make windows unstable when using certain applications

Re: Upgrading RAM

No it doesn't. Windows is perfectly stable. Only badly written or broken applications become unstable, and that's because of the retarded application, not Windows.

Re: Upgrading RAM

would'nt it also be best to have then same amount of RAM and the same speed in every slot otherwise the fastest stick will only work as fast as your slowest, what speeds are your old one's compared to your new ones ?
