Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
The wife's bought a book for her college course which includes some online content she wants to access. When she tried to do this it refused to open and a box popped up telling her she needs to download Quicktime 7 to open it.
We've not come across this problem before when trying to view video/audio files so does this sound reasonable or are there alternative programmes supplied with win7 Home Premium that would do the same job?
Are there any issues to be aware of if we download QT7 e.g. possible conflicts etc. or should this process be straightforward?
Cheers all.

Re: Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
It should be striaght forward, the only issue you might get is it will try and get you link all media files to open in QT rather than what the pc is set up to.
I just install QT and assign QT files only. (.MOV, .MP4 etc)

Re: Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
Sounds like a good idea. How do I select which files should be opened with QT and which should stay as they are?
Cheers.

Re: Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
Cheers for that. Have just installed QT7, however, so will see how that goes for now.
Thanks for the help guys.

Will VLC player not do the job?

Re: Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
Depends how the page is coded. If it's calling for the Quicktime plugin (rather than launching it in a player) then I would think only QT itself would work?

Re: Quicktime 7 - is it needed?
Well it all seems to be working, so far and the wife's been able to view the content she wanted at last.
Never heard of VLC player.
Thanks again all.

VLC - http://www.videolan.org
Probably the most versatile free video player out there.
