Problem connecting laptop to tv
Hi,
I have just bought a vga to scart cable so i can watch tv through my TV (i use it mainly to watch bbci player and 4od). I used to connect to my old tv with a vga to vga cable and it works perfectly fine. When i plug this new one in, my laptop screen goes black (as it did before) but nothing appears on my tv. It just says no input detected.
Does anyone know why this is?

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
well, if it worked on your old tv and doesn't on your new tv, I am guessing there maybe a setting you haven't found on your new tv?
or your new tv doesnt work on vga, a lot don't

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
well i was thinkin that if it worked on my old tv then there shouldnt be a problem it working on the new one. thats why i thought it might be something to do with the cable i am using this time. my nwe tv doesnt have a vga port so couldnt use my old cable.
i didnt used to have to change any settings on my old tv, just had to switch to AV

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
SO......it comes out of your laptop as vga....
It went into your old tv as vga into the vga connector.
your new tv hasn't got a vga connector.....so maybe it can't use vga ???
you could try connecting to the vcr that might work but if we don't know what tv we are talking about we aren't going to get very far are we?

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
The laptop is only about 6 months old. yes i have tried switching on display settings (when they are not connected) but nothing changes. I wasnt sure if it had to be connected first before i changed the settings...in that case i cant see the screen to change once its connected lol

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
Its likely that the VGA port is putting out far too many lines for the TV, at least that it's expecting to receive over Scart, try dropping your resolution down to minimum first.

Re: Problem connecting laptop to tv
There's a few things it could be then
Faulty Cable
TV Doesn't like the frequency, etc of the VGA signal, it is generally incompatible with PAL TVs, doesn't like RGB (unlikely with a modern TV) or just isn't expecting the signal in the form it's in so is ignoring it.
