Need some help with video editing / recording please :)

Hey Guys,

I need to accomplish two things:

1. I need to take a video capture of the screen of a Windows computer whilst I am performing some operations with different bits of software;

2. I need to edit the resulting file to cut out any extraneous stuff and make it flow the way I want to - nothing complicated, probably just cutting out specific sections in fact.

I've tried Cam Studio, which appears to record fine, but I can't get any software to import and edit it. Some editing software doesn't recognise the codecs, some just mungs it up as it does the final export.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Cheers,

Raist

Not done this to any great degree but have managed to edit with VLC given that it copies from point a to b. does not splice as far as I can tell.

Lightworks seems to be quite a sophisticated video editing program for a freebee.

Giveawayoftheday have Zebra screen recorder on offer today. Could be worth a look.

The comments mention a number of other screen capture programs.

This is not what you are looking for but it can be useful.

In Windows 7, in the Search box type:- psr

It opens a little record box that that records your screen, just thought I would mention it for those that do not know about it.

Lightworks is not bad though for a beginner, Camtasia is good, but very expensive.

Camtasia is what I'd use; you may be able to get an older version for a reasonable price.

I believe Snagit will also record video, not sure what format.
