AVI\DiVX playback issue

I have a problem with AVI playback on my media centre. More noticable with facial features as its like the playback softens then sharpens in a 4-5 second pulse.

Machine specs.
C2D 7400
2gb DDR2
ATI 5450
2Tb WD20earx
Asus P5B

Win XP SP3
Avast AV
VLC
Zoomplayer
MPC
Latest codecs

Doesnt seem aparent on HD content in MKV containers. Also when paused it remains in the state it was when paused.

Googled & didnt come up with much so any idea's\help would be appreaciated.

Re: AVI\DiVX playback issue

Have you tried uninstalling and trying the official DIVX pack (it'll do divx/mkv..) and then supplement it with xvid and ac3 if needed. Just that a lot of the "free" codec packs rely on a hacked ffdshow or directshow which can conflict with other codecs as install by other software.

Re: AVI\DiVX playback issue

No, i'll have a try after F1, setup hardware decoding on my laptop without issue using a generic codec pack.

Re: AVI\DiVX playback issue

Just remember that these codec packs don't suit every machine

As with any software it depends on working with a unique hardware and software combination. Try the official codecs if it solves the issue then you can stick with them or try a different combination.

Re: AVI\DiVX playback issue

I used to use the k-lite mega codec pack with media player classic, but I used to sometimes get BSOD with divx/xvid files, so switched to vlc http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ which lets you play almost anything without sorting out codecs yourself.

Dont matter what I use for playback, VLC, MPC, Zoomplayer et-al.

But after playing some of my AVI's back on the laptop & the same issue is still there I think it may be down to the encoding (which is out of my control)

That said I am still going to try & get hardware decoding working on the media centre!
