Why not download Real Player Basic as that will let you record Youtube Video's and also, as I do it myself record live Streaming of radio and video from the internet.

There's tons of software out there to download and save youtube vids. I use Firefox with the DownloadHelper plugin but if you prefer other browsers you may have to find something different.

That is why to be honest I said about Real Player Basic as it's not browser dependant 
I have used it for recording steaming audio since they started doing it, as before that I used Ripcast and I didn't download video's of Youtube, but now if I need a video from there I just use Real Player and it comes down perfectly fine.
I have the Add On stuff aswell on my browser though incase Real Player doesn't like something.

DVDvideosoft youtube-ipod converter always worked fine for me. Standalone app, not a plugin.

Vdownloader is the best if found, and it by default downloads the best quailty it can.

Sorry I didn't make myself very clear with this (was at work on a break whilst posting).
I wanted to help my stepson record a podcast for his school homework.
You can just record video podcasts directly from the YouTube site I have since found out.
In the end though he decided he just wanted audio so we disk audacity then mp3 to google docs.

There is also mp3ify just google it and it will take you there, as that will let you get just the audio or both audi and video.
