Windows 7 Update Not Working - Help!!!

I've just bought a new lappy with Win 7 Home Premium, setting it up I can't get it to update Windows. I go to Windows Update, it's scanning PC and telling me the available updates but is not downloading and installing them.

It's connected to 'net OK and I download OK. I've never had a prob with Windows update on any other Win OS but this is my first Win 7 PC so am I missing something?

Seems the problem was with Micro$oft, now sorted!

What do you mean you go to Windows update? Are you going to the website?
Check your settings for auto updates and either set it to download and install update automatically or download updates and ask if you want them installed.
I think it's in Control panel/system and then i think scroll to the bottom and click the link for windows updates

Re: Windows 7 Update Not Working - Help!!!

Thank you for the reply, but as my update at 11:37 said, there seems to be a problem with downloads from the M$ site stalling however I eventually got all the updates installed.

Currently waiting for IE9 to download is like watching paint dry!

Re: Windows 7 Update Not Working - Help!!!

Win7 doesn't use the windowsupdate site to display updates.. go to control panel >> System Security >> Windows Updates

Just tried it myself and everything is fine with the connection

Guys thanks for the replies, as i said at 11:37 update to my original post the prob is sorted. However this morning the connection to M$ using my VM BB cable connection was was linking OK to the site, the PC was being scanned OK for updates and update list was generated, however it was stalling badly when downloading updates and showing no download progress but I hadn't realised that when I posted the query in here. Having heard rumours of Win 7 update issues I'd initially jumped to the wrong conclusion, silly of me! It is working fine now!

Clicking Windows Update works just fine as BenMcr says.
