Question Reinstall windows SP2 sticker - SP1 disk - Will it work?

Hi,

I have been given a Pentium 4 PC that has the a Windows XP SP2 code sticker on the case for the PC.

I would like to reinstall windows, but I only have a Windows XP SP1 disk.
Or will I need an SP2 disk?

Edit
Just got my hands on SP2 . But most likely will try my SP1 disk first, it is not a major problem for me to download the patches for Windows.

Thanks

I think it will work Gaz, but if you get any problems I'm also in Lincoln and have sp2 or 3 disks.

Edit:
Just got dragged away to phone halfway through replying and missed your edit.

Re: Reinstall windows SP2 sticker - SP1 disk - Will it work?

I am sure I have used a SP1 disk with an SP2 code before, when doing re-installing my brothers PC.

I do have a SP3 OEM disk, but, didn't they change it somehow and you needed an SP3 code?

I have started doing it, it is currently formatting

It is installed and activated, just insalling SP2

Re: Reinstall windows SP2 sticker - SP1 disk - Will it work?

I'd be more inclined to slipstream an Sp3 disk & use that - not sure if it's been proven, but the cleanest possible install seems to be with a SP3 disk, followed immediately (updates off) by IE8 & WMP11, then allow Windowsupdate to do it's thing (as IE8 & WMP11 render a pile of other updates obsolete).

I think the change in SP3, was that you could install and put the code in later - though any SP accepted any valid code
