Keep it cool

Just noticed that Corsair have switched to marketing the Coolit CPU Water Cooler, re-badged of course, as a result the cooler should be more generally available. LINK

To anyone that doesn't know, the Coolit kit is compatible with most popular CPU's, even the new AMD FM1. The quality and ease of fitting is first class, I didn't even have to replace the standard CPU mounting back plate, although one was supplied with the kit, and yes, the water pipes are plenty long enough.
This is a sealed for life unit, requiring no maintenance and is totally silent in use.
You will require a case with a 120cm exhaust fan hole for the standard radiator.

I have been using the basic Coolit kit (no fan supplied, I used the standard case fan) since I built my AMD 6 core system and I have never seen the CPU temperature reach 40C even though the system is running Linux, a Web Server, and VirtualBox running Windows Server.
In summer CPU temperature tends to be around 29C in normal use and in winter this tends to drop to around 23C. The added bonus of not having to have the sound of a jet engine to cool the CPU cannot be overstated.

Re: Keep it cool

I use H70's, which have been great for me.

Pretty much easy to setup, as long as you are not scared about putting the brackets on the motherboard from underneath the CPU socket.

When you said you didn't have to replace the back plate, do you mean an older cooling bracket? or the standard CPU bracket?

But yeah with one of those and a decent Nvidia 460/560 your system can be quiet as a mouse while on full load

Re: Keep it cool

It was the original Asus AM3 standard backplate, if I hadn't been building a new system I would have been able to install the Coolit without removing the motherboard.

I had been using the earlier Corsair unit with the outside pump/resourvoir unit on my previous systems but for £40 I thought the Coolit would be a much neater option, and they had been running 24/7 for about 4 years.

The Coolit CPU pump housing is a low profile unit and looks better designed and more professional looking than similar units we have previously seen from other manufactures, however they are all using similar types of pump which appear to be incredibly reliable and effective.
