Mouse double clicks on single click

As title says, I click to drag a folder/file etc and it opens it, if I'm highlighting text it moves text.

This is becoming annoying, now my dad has said its happening on his PC.

I'm running XP MCE (mouse is a Logitech Anywhere MX), and he's running Vista Premium (mouse is a Labtec mini optical glow mouse), so a S/W issue seems to be unlikely.

He's looked online and its seems be a common occurance.

I've check mouse setting, adjust click speeds but still nothing.

Any ideas?

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

Check to see if SINGLE CLICK is activated

1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the General tab check Single-click to open an item (point to select) (disable if checked)

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

Seems to be an issue with the mouse itself

But my dad has a different mouse, and the same issue?

Weird how it's then effecting two PC's at once..

Could be malware but just as likely to be a piece of software that you've both installed..

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

Could this be due to the double click interval being set too low?

Other than AV we have totally different S/W tastes.

I've set the speed so that you need to click quicker than superman on an acid trip, but still the same.

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

I've had this happen a couple of times and each time it took a new mouse to solve it.

It's the micro switch under the button that's gone faulty.

Try slowing it down and see what happens.

I'm getting an odd problem on the missus' PC too... on boot, with the mouse untouched, the start button looks "pressed" even though the cursor is nowhere near it. Then any click, left or right, of the mouse, causes the machine to think I've selected "shutdown" and so it does.

Several AV's find nothing. Stopping everything in Startup had no effect.

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

@Taf
Sticky "Windows" key?
If your keyboard has additional special function keys, one of those could be stuck.

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

Nothing so easy.... the monitor went "PHUT!" so I replaced it.

No problems since.

I am most confused as to how a monitor could affect a keyboard or mouse, but it's probably something to do with Windohs....

Re: Mouse double clicks on single click

Well my dads Vista laptop went to "silicon heaven", and today bought himself a new Windows 7 laptop, and the mouse issue is there, so a new mouse is on order.
