Hello all, Ive been trying to get sound on my tv from my pc speakers to no avail. I have perfect picture via a HDMI cable. But my 3.5mm cable that goes from the speakers to the PC/DVI Audio in on my samsung LE40B530P7WXXU isnt working. Im not sure what else to try. Below are a few specs for my pc

Windows xp
Nvidea Geforce 8800GT

Much thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: No sound on tv from PC Speakers

You need to find out at which end the problem is.
Plug some headphones into your PC and if you can hear the sound then it's not the PC.
Unless the cable is broken (which can happen) then there must be someway to allow external audio in on the standard RCA connectors. Probably buried in a menu somewhere on the TV.

My HDMI Samsung LED TV takes audio from my Humax 9300 over the HDMI connector. Not all devices can do this.

Also note that not all HDMI devices support audio up the HDMI cable.

Re: No sound on tv from PC Speakers

are the HDMI and PC audio inputs tied? most tv's will only support one input at a time, where video and audio are coupled as a single input. the tv is probably expecting the audio over the HDMI cable if you are seeing an image (which means you have selected the HDMI on the channel select). The PC audio in and PC DVI are likely coupled, so you would only get the sound if you switch the input to PC, which will then look for the video over the DVI.

sounds to me like you're mixing the inputs and expecting both to give you an output simultaneously. this won't work in most cases.

Re: No sound on tv from PC Speakers

I have a Geforce 260 and I am sure there are some Audio pins attached to the card (internally) I can't get in my pc to look as its in a tight corner.

Re: No sound on tv from PC Speakers

Probably not relevant, or you have already tried but have you tried to solve the problem by to making a change to your Samsung TV speaker set up? I set up a friends TV to play through separate speakers and had to cancel the TV's internal amplifier thingy and choose the external speaker setting.

I was just blindly following the instructions in his TV manual so I'm not sure if what you are trying to do is the same.

Re: No sound on tv from PC Speakers

Always depends on the TV but I have seen the audio input linked to a a specific HDMI socket (Often HDMI 1 But sometimes 2). On a few older tellys I also saw it set for VGA only. If the socket says PC/DVI there should be a corresponding HDMI socket with DVI written next to it.
Its also possible that the audio is being passed through the hdmi (Will switch when the cable is connected if set to) but the additional audio cable is muting the HDMI input and obviously will have no audio of its own because the mixer will be set on the pc to only allow audio through the HDMI.
Do the speakers still work without the passthrough cable once the HDMI is connected?
