The two most recent TVs I have tried were Full HD 1920x1080 panels and the pc resolution was set to 1920x1080 also through HDMI (in the correct DVI socket as labelled on the back).

Compared to a dedicated computer monitor, they just don't quite look as good (in my opinion).
1920x1080 is a pretty difficult resolution for most people to work with and you would find the same if you had a monitor at the same resolution. What I tried to point out before is that setting a resolution compatible to your panel will often give a more acceptable image especially on a larger screen. For example on a 1680x1050 monitor, 1360x768 & 1280x720 are both acceptable resolutions as they fit the original aspect and are often much more friendly on the eye on a larger 32"+ screen.

Remember maximum resolution does not equal best
