Need help sharing files between xp and win 7 64bit home prem

Ok I have two machines XP + Win7 I set their workgroups to WORKGROUP. I shared a drive (trying to move my content over to my new machine). Now in Win7 I go to "Network" and it displays my xp machine I am able to open it to show me the shared folders but when I try and open it takes for ages and then recons"\\\d is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource."I checked the shared permissions on the xp machine and I set "Everyone" to full permissions.

Yes. Under the "Share Permissions" menu in XP i selected the "Everybody" user and set the access to "Full Control" so there is a tick in Full Control, Read + Write.

have you set up any shares on Win7 may be worth setting up where you are going to put the files and set it all up the same.

you may also need to setup a password on both machines aswell, as iirc that also does something when sharing between new and older os's.

No I thought I would just drag the files across to some folders.

What he said. If you have an identical passworded account on each machine that seems to help them 'play nice'

My experience has been that you don't actually have to be logged into that particular account but still it seems to help the sharing to work.

You're luckier than some I'd say. This seems to be quite a common issue.

Does the sharing work the other way?
From the XP machine can you open a shared folder on the win7 box?

It may be worth turning off the firewalls on both machines temporarily just to be certain it's not a firewall issue.
