Re: Need help sharing files between xp and win 7 64bit home prem

Disabled both firewalls and win7 still asks me for passwords and I type the user name and password it but it does not accept it. I tried file sharing between my xp machine and my netbook which also has xp and the netbook connected without any username/password. I can access the files that I need from the netbook. I recon its Win7 machine thats playing around.

I setup a win xp virtual machine on the windows 7 machine and it would not connect as well.

Any other ideas or perhaps another forum that maybe able to be to help?

I'm just going to try share some files on my win7 to my xp machine and see if it connects that way.

OK I shared my win7 C:. I again I can access C: from my netbook but my XP machine says I dont have the right access. I can access the win7 users/public folder and files from the xp machine

If you havn't tried this already, on the win7 pc go to advanced sharing settings, scroll down and set "use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers"

Reboot and see if that makes any difference.

Nope. When it asks me for a username/password directly under password it says Domain: WIN7-PC
WIN7 being the pc name, does this matter?

I suppose its mapping a networking drive I'm really after as I want to access the c: and D: of my xp machine, as I will eventually use my xp machine as a server.

I'm not 100% sure but I'd give it a try as you can always revert back.

I mapped the drive using z: and the path \\192.168.123.123\d$ and it displays the drive and shows that is NTFS and the size and how much free space it has. Still no luck.

Dammit. I'm sure there's something simple I'm overlooking but just can't call it to mind at the moment.

Can you map a drive the other way and access it correctly.

Try mapping to a shared folder rather than the root of the drive, see if that makes any difference.

When prompted type in the computername\accountname as the user id and then the password.

I've tried that.

I've given up I ripped out the harddrive placed it into my news machine and I'm in the process of formatting the old pc and installing ubuntu.
