MY laptop beeps at stupid times!

My laptop makes a BIOS like beep that comes from the motherboard whenever I close a document without saving or basically whenever error messages come up or if I press backspace in the address bar on my web browser when there is no text in. Basically none of the normal sounds happen anymore and I've tried messing around in control panel.

Can anyone help?

SomeGuy

In control panel > Sounds , Speech, Audio > Change the Sound Scheme - Select Windows Default in the drop down box (at least that's hwo it looks in Windows XP)

Re: MY laptop beeps at stupid times!

You can also disable the 'beep'. See link for a good guide (again Windows XP)

Thanks that link worked and I've disabled it. Although I still don't have normal default sounds which I've tried to make work in control panel but now I'm happy I don't jump out of my skin. Thanks!

Re: MY laptop beeps at stupid times!

make sure your default audio device is set to the sound card (if you haven't checked already)
