Re: External Hardrive

OK Roy. I don't use the Paragon software myself so I can't give you 'word for word' instructions but what I can do is list the order in which things normally happen.

Starting out with the hardware. Check that the external hard drive is connected and has been recognised by the system. Use Windows Explorer to check that there is enough free space on the external drive to take your backup.

Start the backup software. This will normally proceed something like this:

Select if you want to backup or restore. (Obviously backup is the choice here.)

Select the partition or disk that you want to back up. (Your system disk)

Select where you want to send the backup (external drive)

You may also be asked to enter a name for the backup file.

That's the main ingredients. If you get any other questions you don't understand then shout back.

Re: External Hardrive

on the main screen click back up then on next page disk and partition back up,Then make sure your OS partition or disk is highlighted click next. Leave create new backup archive ticked . In new backup location browse to where you want it stored click next then click proceed.

Once it is finished it will offer to create a recovery cd allow it to if you have a cd handy if not allow it to create an iso for later

Clean your system before the back up

Re: External Hardrive

Let's uncomplicate this for Roy.

1. Buy a NAS Drive, I recommend 1 TB (1000 Gigabytes) i.e. Buffalo Linkstation Live 1TB NAS Drive for around £90
2. Plug it into your Cable Router (Netgear?) with the supplied network cable, on an available network port (These are numbered 1 to 4 on the back of the Router) Your Operating system will see the drive and it will be added to your computer Network.

3. Follow the setup instructions that come with the NAS Drive, most of these drives come supplied with built-in back-up software.
4. A simple way to back-up your important files, such as Pictures and Documents, is to COPY/Move them to the NAS Drive
5. Use Windows XP/Vista/7 Backup and Recovery to look after your Operating system and other files.

NOTE USB 2.0 drives are very slow compared to NAS drives and the price difference is not great: however they are simple to set up and use.

Email me if you want help, I live in Swansea...

Re: External Hardrive

A Nas driver would plug into your router and can be shared across your network
