New PC help

After 7 years I have decided to buy a new PC, just getting a £300 Dell one.

Does the VM broadband/router just plug in the new PC and work?

Will my ipod just plug in or is it paried to this old PC? No idea about this.

Do I just reinstall printer and camera stuff?

Does Windows 7 come with Outlook Express like I use now and I can just move old emails into it?

Do I have to unistall my word /excel for it to work on the new one, as I have an office 2007 disc?

Is outlook easy to set up, I just fill in the pop ntlworld stuff?

Thanks for any help as you can probably tell I have no idea!

Re: New PC help

VM yes, if you have a router just plug in and go.
Ipod is paired to your PC so you may need to look up moving your Itunes data onto a new PC. It can be done.
Printer and camera, yep just reload the driver CDs and software they came with.
If you have installed office on the old PC then you have used your license for it if it was a single user license version.
Oulook should be easy as VM have moved over to the Gmail system haven't they??

Re: New PC help

My recent experience is you can re-install office 2007. After 3 installs MS will not accept the activation code over the internet but will allow activation via the telephone, which is free phone and automated.

Re: New PC help

If it is office 2007 home and student then you can use it on 3 pc's but even if you use it on 3 then get a new pc, and install it on that then you might just have to phone Microsoft to get it activated.

Re: New PC help

Outlook Express has long been superceded. In Vista it was Windows Mail. With Windows 7 there is no pre-installed email client. You can download Windows Mail Live, or use a third party thing. It's a little bit like an internet browser - internet explorer may not be installed at the outset.. Thank the EU anti-competitiveness rules for making things more complex for the end user. There should be easy to follow links in windows 7 that will allow you to find the right download sites.

If you have the full Office suite then you should be able to configure Office's Outlook to work with Virgin Media.

Re: New PC help

Thanks for the help all. So will I be able to transfer all my outlook express emails into another system easily? So windows 7 home has no email in it, when I got XP 7 years ago was that how I got outlook express?

Thanks

Just found this http://www.tucows.com/preview/194179 so can I just download OE and use it like I do now or is this a suspect download?

Thanks

Re: New PC help

Just use Outlook from your Office suite as the mail client - it's much better than OE or Windows Mail.

Here's a guide on importing.

Re: New PC help

As it is a DELL I can't get OE onto the new computer can I without installing the whole of XP?

Am I right in thinking your link says on the new PC I have to install Outlook and Outlook Express? I have all the OE files on a removable HD, but don't know how to get them into Outlook, unless I do not need OE installed on new PC?

Does Windows 7 or Microsoft works come with Outlook?

Thanks

Re: New PC help

which version of office do you have if its home then you dont have outlook on it if pro then no problem just export all in express and save it in a pst format which the standard outlook will import if you dont have pro then download thunderbird from mozilla and you'll be able to import express in there as well

Re: New PC help

Home, but been using OE, is there no where safe to download OE from?

So if I save all my OE files can I import them to thunderbird?

So does Windows 7 home come withmail of any type and if it does is it one I can get my OE files into easily?

Thanks again

Re: New PC help

For an OE similar app in Windows 7 you have to download the Windows Live Mail which is part of Windows Live Essentials http://download.live.com/wlmail

Re: New PC help

Yeah, just drag and drop email from OE to external hard drive and then drag and drop it into Live Mail off the external hard drive
