Router SSID Vista problem
I have a Netgear wgt624v3 router, I have to leave the SSID to broadcast as both my Mum & Dads laptops who are running Vista cannot see the router.
But My laptop, Netbook & PSP connect without any problems.
I remember that somebody here mentioned a setting in vista solves this problem.
Not knowing Vista I on't know where to look.

Re: Router SSID Vista problem
Go to your Wireless network properties in Vista and enable 'Connect even if the network is not broadcasting'
See here for some screens.

Re: Router SSID Vista problem
IMHO everyone should have their SSID enabled. Wireless is a shared spectrum so when you broadcast your SSID everyone else can see what channel you are using and try to avoid interfering.
Turning off the SSID as some (pathetic) attempt at security is just futile. Anyone wanting to hack your network will have tools to see it anyway when they scan for access points. Encryption and MAC filtering are much better ways to make your network secure.

It's already easy for any able hacker anyway, it's just an extra 10 seconds annoyance to them

If hiding SSID`s is a pathetic attempt at security then surely the Mac Filtering would be in the very same category.

Correct - Wifi snooping tools ignore MAC filtering and if you wanted to join a 'filtered' network you could snoop a valid MAC and then spoof it.
