Pc to tv. How?

Argh! Someone help. I'm totally confused. ...my pc's monitor is small, my tv is big. So i wanna connect my pc to my tv somehow, while keeping them both on. Is that possible? I've taken a look at the back of my equipment, and on the back of my pc are some usb sockets, a headphone jack, and a vga slot, (from which a cable runs to my monitor). On the back of my tv is a scart socket, an hdmi socket, and an rf socket. How do i connect my pc to my tv?

Re: Pc to tv. How?

Thanks, but is there a solution that doesn't involve taking anything apart? By just using cables i mean? I've seen online some vga to scart leads, and a vga splitter. Would that work?

thats the easiest way how?

First things first we need to know what PC you have and what graphics slot is available

Google search majorgeeks:everest download and install the program
Run the program and click motherboard please give us the model number if available

Look to see if you have a PCI E slot or a AGP slot

If you have a PCI E slot then your choise is simple choose a mid spec ATI card ( not an old nvidia card as Tony linked to as this has no sound output meaning more cables and more problems) something like a 4650 or similar costs around £40. search for one with a native HDMI socket and this will easily give you picture and audio

I will link to such a card in a sec

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169294 here is a cheap option

adding a card is simple can you have a look at the back of your pc where the VGA is? is it onboard graphics or is there a card? often there will be a S Video or similar adapter ? if there is then you can buy pc out kits from places like amazon that will give you all the connectiosn you need to do the job.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xxion-Adapto...5667876&sr=8-1 here is such a tv out kit

http://www.blueunplugged.com/p.aspx?p=121406#moreinfo this may work but you would need to route audio also

There are a whole bunch of reasons why it might or might not work though but its cheap enough to try

Re: Pc to tv. How?

I appreciate all the responses guys, but i live on a shoe string, so before i even start thinking about new cards, can someone tell me, will the cables i found (linked below) work for my purpose? Ie, putting my monitor's content on my tv, while keeping them both on. Sound isn't an issue incidently.. And the last link you gave to that cable is more like the budget i'm thinking of. Lol.

Re: Pc to tv. How?

Unless your vga output specifically supports TV output (most don't), neither cable will work. VGA uses different voltages and different frequencies to TV signals.

scart to vga is different to vga to scart. Them cables are for playing something like a dvd player on a pc monitor or projector

what make and model tv do you have?

i'm not at home right now so i can't check. I'm sitting on a coach on the motorway posting on here using my phone. Lol. ...from memory though, i'm pretty sure there is a card. "Nvidea", or something like that? Is that even a word? Lol. I do remember though that there aren't many holes on the back of the tower. Just a couple of usb's. A hole for the keyboard cable. A vga hole for the monitor. And a 3.5mm hole for the headphones/speakers.
