MS Office 2007 for £40?
Well so my wife has been told by one of her student friends. Anyone know about this offer through colleges etc. Which version (i.e. products) is it likely to be and is it a good deal?
Cheers all!

This is where I have bought cheap stuff using the name of a relation at College:
CLICK
No problems at all. My discs came without packaging but with the official long code and are accepted as genuine Microsoft products by Windows Update

Yep as long as you have a student in the family it is a very good offer.

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
Hi guys.
OK well it appears her friend was correct but you have to get it online, presumably the same place as Moldova posted a link to.
I've had a qucik look and as part of the verification process the site asks for her college e.mail address. Presumably they mean an internal address her college has allocated to her? She only has one such e.mail address which takes the form: 12345678@student.&$&%$^&.ac.uk Is this what they mean?
I also notice the further education stipulation regarding a minimum amount of "15 hours of scheduled contact time for your course". What on earth does that mean?
Does anyone know how the software is obtained, is it just a download and if so how do we access any supporting documentation or will that also be provided? Can we copy the suite onto discs and use the software on more than one household PC?
As you'll probably have guessed, neither of us has done anything like this before so we'd be grateful for any feedback.
Cheers...

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
If you use THIS site as in my previous post, nothing like that is asked for. They need a name of a student, the name of an educational establishment (and if it is not on their list it can be added) and your relationship to the student. Nothing more is required (except the money!) in the ordering process.

That may be because it's NOT a university...

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
So anyone else has to pay £550 for Office Ultimate at PC World?
What annoys me slightly is that if they can offer this for £38.95 online, surely they could stop much of the piracy by selling at a more reasonable price than £550?

Microsoft offer software to students at heavily reduced prices for one reason. They hope that at least a sizable number of those students will be in a position (in the future) to make recommendations to their employers about software purchases. They also hope that, already knowing MS software, they will recommend MS software.. If a percentage of them end up in positions where they are even working for a small company and are able to recommend software (and do recommend Microsoft), Microsoft will make a lot more money from them than what they lost by reducing the retail price..
Edit: And they have been doing this for years, as have other software houses. It must make them more money, because they wouldn't do it if it didn't.

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
Just to 'bump' a couple of questions I raised:
Does anyone know how the software is obtained, is it just a download and if so how do we access any supporting documentation or will that also be provided? Can we copy the suite onto discs and use the software on more than one household PC? I notice that the hardware spec states 500ghz as a minimum, so anyone got any idea if my puny 300ghz processor will cope?
Cheers...

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
a friend got Windows 7 a month or so ago via the page Moldova provided in his link, it's a download and a valid key but she was also given the option for the version on disc for an extra cost of around £11 iirc.
She just had to use her .ac email address. and was sent a link to a MS page to download the software from.

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
Thanks for all the help. So when you've donwloaded the software can you just save a copy to disc to use as a backup if anything goes wrong at some point or do you have to purchase a backup disc at the time of order?
If we do install this suite on our PC and, due to the limitations of the system, it doesn't work satisfactorily will it be possible to copy and install the software on another PC at some point?
