If MS state that a 500MHz CPU is needed, it probably won't install on anything slower than that. And knowing how MS seem to massively underestimate the minimum requirements of their programs, it'll probably run slowly on 500MHz..

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
aha not good then.....
Is it possible that some of the applications will simply function better than others because they're less processor hungry or does it not work like that? The wife's only a learner and so won't exactly be stretching all the software to its limits but the suite would be handy for her current/future courses and our eldest for his GCSE and 'A' level homework. Given all that, it's not impossible that we'd buy another PC att some point so if we could download and give it a try on the current machine and, if it doesn't go well, transfer it to another machine that'd be another option. Do you know if that'd be possible or is there a limitation on the software which would preclude that?
I'll try to find out more about the system requirements for each application and see if that sheds any light on the problem. I've been looking at the MS pages provided about the software offer and can't find anything relating to the above questions so would greatly appreciate any further feedback.

I just saw on the same page Molly posted - Win7 professional for £30.
Result (and yes, I do have an ac.uk email addy).

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
Mrs D started an OU course a couple of months ago (courtesy of her work ).
Her .ac.uk email address has been quite handy - Win7 Pro for me for £30, & Office Ultimate 2007 for her for £38

Re: MS Office 2007 for £40?
Just to throw another name into the mix, I purchased our Office Pro 2007 from here. Excellent service without the need for an ac.uk address when I ordered from them a few months ago. They are Microsoft approved education resellers.

Is that upgrade or full install? I can get an upgrade version for about £15.
Office, and lots of other stuff generally costs £2.00, to cover the cost of the media/copying.

Full.
I can get heaps of software on loan from the Uni, but prefer to pay and own it.

'Loan' meaning you should uninstall it from a home machine if you leave the Uni? We get that too, but seriously...
Full @ £30 sounds tempting though.

Full? It said it was the "Upgrade" version when Mrs D bought it, same offer via Digital River. Although it did still allow a clean install using a bootable DVD, despite some stuff I'd read saying you couldn't do that with an "Upgrade" version.
