help needed please

a while ago i tried windows 7 trial ,i set up a partition of 10gb installed it no probs when the trial ran out i deleted the partition but i still get the option to boot in windows 7 and i can find no way of deleting that option, as obviously there is nothing left to boot i only get an error can anyone tell me how to remove it from the boot options on a compaq laptop ,thanks

Are you running XP? If yes:

Boot from XP CD select to enter recovery console, select your windows install, and enter admin password(if set)

type in FIXBOOT(followed by enter), then FIXMBR(again followed by enter)

Reboot

easybcd should sort it find the entry for win 7 and delete it

In fact actually msconfig boot you should see 2 boot paths find the one that does not apply and delete it

Is`nt it possible to edit the boot.ini via msconfig in Vista?

EDIT:Beat me with the edit.

boot.ini is for pre vista OS's the whole boot sequencing is different in vista and you only get a editable boot.ini if you dual boot with xp

thanks guys problem sorted ,as suggested by zing an xpod used msconfig to delete the path
completley forgot about using msconfig as it is rarely used in vista now by the general user

while you clever sorts are floating around the forum ,my son wants to set up a game server using an old computer we have, any advice on what is needed will be helpfull
the old computer has xp on it

depends on the game. I run successfully old MoH dedicated server software. Ideally thats what you need to set up a dedicated server rather than the game. Rob and Dai will be good to ask as I am sure others will be

It`s actually the reason i often write longer posts in a text editor first,because i`m often distracted by children half way through writing the things,especially at bed-time.
