Re: Usefull keyboard shortcuts
Although keymaps are all over the net, this one is much more useful since the description of the symbol is searchable which comes in very useful when you need to quickly send a symbol in chat.

How to string a few together for simple copy and paste of text and links
to copy text or links( for Arthur or anyone who needs them)
press the left mouse button and hold it down at the end of the text you want to copy drag across text till all text you require is highlighted keep
holding the left mouse button. Release mouse button text should remain highlighted
Once highlighted press and hold the CTRL key and press C this copies the text
To paste the text simply click in the empty space where you write press and hold CTRL key and press V this pastes into place simple
bare in mind anything copied to clipboard will remain there until new text is copied or you log off reboot so you may make a mistake and paste it again

I find it even easier to position the cursor at the start (or end) of the text/link I want to copy, then hold down the shift key & use the left or right arrow key to highlight as much of the text is required, then let go shift & use ctrl-c, ctrl-v to copy & paste, as above.

Re: Useful keyboard shortcuts
All the characters can be found at programs\accessories\systemTools\charactermap you can also select from any of the fonts you have loaded on the system Click on the character you want and it will tell you the key stroke or alt +number to use.
You can also copy them directly from there.
Couple of others:
PrtSc key will snapshot the screen to the clipboard, Alt with PrtSc will snapshot the current window to the clipboard.
Old hands will remember that this key used to print the current text or graphic screen in DOS but only to an IBM compatable printer.

Re: Useful keyboard shortcuts
Really useful thread guys, thank you all.
Just as a point of interest could anyone tell me what I pushed in error that made my screen rotate to show the thread in portrait mode. I know I was messing with the numberlock on and using the ALT key/ number pad. Scared the pants off me and I just kept frantically pressing random combinations until I got it back to normal. Tried to do it again and can't work out how I did it. I really must stop doing things like this as it ages me considerably.
Oh Boy I have just tried to give a few reps and realised this was a resurrected 2009 thread.

Re: Useful keyboard shortcuts
I was able to make the screen change on the machine I'm using by pushing CTRL and ALT and an arrow key (WinXP)

Thanks for that Chris. That does work for me though I wasn't using those keys earlier. I like your way and will remember it as it is kind of logical.

Re: Useful keyboard shortcuts
Lollerskates
Switch between open windows - Left Alt + Tab
Switch *backwards* between open windows - Alt+Shift+Tab
Switch tabs in web browser: Ctrl+Tab
Switch tabs backwards in web browser: Ctrl+Shift+Tab
Most of these things become pretty obvious when you notice the pattern.
