Processor Speed is wrong in Windows

I fitted a new processor in my PC about 2 weeks ago upgraded from a 4200+ to a 6000 (2mb l2 cache) not the standard 1mb.

When i fitted it i know that windows was reading the processor fine under system information as 6000+ 3Ghz.

Now its reading AMD ATHLON 6000+ 994Mhz.

The System Bios still detects the PC as being an AMD Athlon 6000+ 3Ghz.

Now this problem must have only happened within the past 2 days cos i was in the device manager 2 days ago and all was showing fine then BUT i aint changed anything since.

Anyone know what the hell is going on?

Update...

Found out what it was, if i set power management to the settings for AMD Cool and Quiet the Speed changes in the system info.

Re: Processor Speed is wrong in Windows

You sussed it yourself, it slows the CPU down to save power and produce less heat when it's not needed, IE if you're browsing the web with simple text pages it'll slow down but go back up to full if you play a game

Hopefully... It can get stuck in the lower speed. My current laptop does this occasionally, and I've had one before that did this.
