Re: [MERGED] The Windows 7 Thread
Well I just installed it and I was under the impression that I got to pick what browser I wanted to install? I loaded it up and there was IE8...

Re: [MERGED] The Windows 7 Thread
The browser choice thing still hasn't been agreed. so until it is you get IE8.
If you re-install after it's been sorted, then it's lilkely it'll be part of the security updates downloaded before you get to the first run desktop. Then you'll get to choose

Re: [MERGED] The Windows 7 Thread
I upgraded to Win 7 64bit on my desktop but I didn't find it any better than Vista, and Windows Live e-mail sucks. I reverted back to Vista.
Stupidly, I also purchased Win 7 Pro 64 bit for my laptop and I have'nt opened it.

Can you over ride the password or clear it if you have forgotten it? It's one of those ones for children with the learner and parent areas and the ex wife has forgotten her password for the parent account.

I've had Vista Business on my desktop PC for nearly 3 years with no problems. I bought the PC with XP Pro roll-back because of all the bad VISTA press and as they gave me both sets of discs I installed both OS's in seperate partitions. I've never used the XP Pro as VISTA has been OK, most of the people I know who moan about VISTA have PC's that barely meet the min system requirements.
I've recently got a laptop with better hardware spec than my desktop PC that has Win 7 HP installed and I have to say that I am completely underwhelmed! Most apps run slower than on my VISTA PC, programme install can be a pain, and just how do I get rid of all the animation rubbish, I've ticked the relevent boxes but some still remains!

Yes - you can donwload a password reset CD, but these are generaly clased as hacking tools and probably shouldn't be discused here. Saying that - have look fo Hirens CD - I won't provide a link here but Google it and you'll find it.

Not exactly hacking as you need full control of the hardware to be able to use the disc in question.. Hirens is just a bunch of PC tools and lately I don;t think has any copyrighted software on it like in the days of old but instead just a load of linux utils.
