batch file rename

Hi

Is there any program out there that will do batch filename of pictures? I am busy with a online photo album and wanted to store the pix with the date taken.

I am using win xp which does show me the date taken for my pix so the attributes are there. I tried using Irfanview (which is an excellant piece of software) and tried its renaming functions how it only seems to output todays date. I might have the wrong setting this is what I am using for the file rename "PIX #### $T(%Y%m%d)"

Flexible Renamer appears to allow you to use file attributes as part of the renaming process.

Not tried it myself, so no promises:

Ok, looks like it should do what you want - I'm playing with it now, it's not overly obvious how it all works though

Go to the 'Tag Rename' section, choose the type of file you want to rename (Image/Photo), then take a look at the 'tag' list to see what tags are available.

You can insert your own words/symbols between tags. There are also scripts that you can use to change the case etc.

I was going to suggest Oscar's renamer which I like

it's plain and simple, it shows the files in what is like a text editor pane, so you can edit them how you want, but Flexible Renamer looks very useful, may have to play with that myself. Good work fella!

Are all the pics you want to use in the same directory?

If so, why not use good old DOS?

START then RUN then cmd in the box brings up a DOS window; negotiate to the folder you want using CD {directory name} to change to the next directory in the tree or CD.. to go back a directory.

Then rename all pics by typing rename *.jpg 03Jan08*.jpg RETURN

Job done, then type exit in window

could also just select them in their directory in Explorer, right click the top file and select rename. windows will then add a number at the end (in order)

The problem with this is windows seems to like to add brackets around the numbers which looks rather pants (1) (2) (3) etc...
