XP I would guess, the other thing confused me too, firefox/IE thingy. I'll ask him
I posted a message asking him the question icestar2 ask's.
I can only imagine he's getting a similar error message for both, but thats a guess, sounds to me like a internet security thingy on his pc to me, there again, I'm no expert by a long way on computer probs
someone suggested to him, get the removal tool for norton from symantec, as it always leaves something behind when removed.
he said, bit difficult when I can't download anything lol

What version of IE is he running. If you dont know how to check tell him to goto Help and then About Internet Explorer and it will tell him. Note* do that in the browser itself.
Has he tried reinstalling or repairing IE ?

Re: Probs downloading anything, help needed please
Ok first thing he can try is resetting IE7. To do this tell him to do the following.
- Start Internet Explorer 7.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
- In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that does not work he can try reinstalling IE by doing the following just be careful not to delete anything in the folder.
- Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then press Enter.
- Find the Ie.inf file that is located in Windows\Inf folder.
- Right-click the Ie.inf file, and then click Install.
- Restart the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Re: Probs downloading anything, help needed please
Hi Robisme,
My name is Peter and I am working for an external European Symantec-Support-Team.
We are sorry to hear about your problem. I have informed the Symantec Support about your issue and they provided us with the following solution:
"Try to download Norton Removal Tool on an other computer from this address: www.symantec.com/symnrt
Run the tool, if you still meet the problem after running this tool, you can be sure ir doesn't come from Norton."
Please try it and let me know if it helped.
Best Regards,
Norton Forum Assist Team

Re: Probs downloading anything, help needed please
While we're on the subject of Norton, someone I know is having a few issues... I've copied what she said about her issue in the hope that someone could assist/help.
"EEkk my laptop just switched off windows were trying to update as was norton all trying to give me updates, my ISP of course left me without a connection"
I've asked the person in question to tell me what version of windows she's running and how old her computer is and if norton came preinstalled (why the heck do they do that? )
btw, I havent used NAV since 2001 when it caused more problems than it actually solved and I've steered well clear of it since.... (it was also the first thing to go when I got my laptop... )
