Laptop Won't Power Up
Hi all,
I have been given a Toshiba laptop to look at - belongs to somebody where Ms LSainsbury works...
There's no life in it at all! Connected charger - there's a charging LED on the front but it dosn't illuminate.
Removed battery for 10 mins, plugged back in - still nothing...
Held down power button for 30 seconds - nothing.
Apparently it died when one of the kids plugged a USB flash drive into it.
Sounds to me like the board has gone / fuse on the board has gone...
Any idea why plugging in a USB drive would do this? A freek coincidence?
Cheers,
Lee

Re: Laptop Won't Power Up
Maybe when they pushed the USB stick in the board in the casing moved slightly and something grounded? Is there voltage coming out of the power lead? Just because the light is on it doesn't mean its working.

USB sockets feel solid - but I can see where you are coming from.

I've listened to the adapter and it's is buzzing and warming up - I'll need to find my multimeter to test this.

Re: Laptop Won't Power Up
Cant be fused board if LED lights up can it? Mobo needs to be able to send PWR signal to LED to say charging/charged/powered up??
I'm not an expert on tosh's so I don't know how easy to dismantle they are - but its easy to take apart a dell to check out the mobo (to see if there are any visibly blown capacitors or other components).
