Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
Ive been having weird problems using the net for about a week, my PC restarts randomly when im on the net and these are the error messages im getting in the Event Log...
1 - Event ID 1002 The IP Address Lease {MY IP} for the network address 0050FCA0929A has been denied by the DHCP server 0.0.0.0 ( The DHCP sent a DHCPNack message). This has a red circle with white cross icon
2 - Event ID 1003 Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the network card with network address 0050FCA0929A. The following error occured:
The Semaphore timeout period has expired. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
This has a yellow triangle with white exclimation mark.
3 - Event ID 1000 Your computer has lost the lease to its IP Address 192.168.100.10 on the network card with the address 0050FCA0929A
This has a red circle with white cross icon
4 - Event ID 8033 The Browser was forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{99248140-B9D5-440E-8DD3-28395E7112AA} because a master browser was stopped.
This has a white speach bubble with a blue i icon.
I have tried changing the network card, i have even wiped and reloaded my PC and all is well otherwise.
Anyone have any idea?

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
What happens if you try to renew it manually i.e.
in a command prompt?

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
Hi,
are you sure that the broadband connection is stable? E.g. does the modem reboot at all?
You are connecting by a router - are any other PCs having the same problem?

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
If your computer is randomly restarting that points to it being a IT problem and maybe this is the incorrect thread as it is not Virgin related.

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
but if its a DHCP problem which points to a Net connect and the NET making it restart and only restarts when using the internet then it could lay with Virgin Media as i think its the modem thats at fault and the reason in lossing connection.

As the PC is randomly restarting, moved to General IT Discussion...

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
Theres no way a problem with the Virgin Media Internet Service can make your PC reboot, its much more likely to be a problem with your OS/Hardware.

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
Here is the PC Help link for Virgin Media.
How can a modem connected via ethernet cause your computer to restart, more likely a computer issue.

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
Do you have a firewall running ? Used to be the age old when people pinged your pc or on ports 135-139 the machine would shutodown and restart. Something to do with dcom if my memory serves me correctly. Check your router drivers are your ethernet drivers are upto date because it looks like a router or modem issue to be honest.

I used to get these two entries in my Windows log, but nothing *appeared* to be wrong.
In the end, I found that manually putting the two Virgin DNS server addresses 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 in my router config settings, rather than having it detect them automatically, "cured" this problem.
However, I agree with others that the restart problem may be something else entirely, possibly an add-on in Internet Explorer causing issues or an unrelated software/hardware issue?

Re: Random Restarts and DHCP Network messages
I have these exact symptoms! My computer that's having the symptoms: XP SP3, Intel Q6600, 2GB
I've also noticed "Network Cable Unplugged", then it goes back and forth, and several of these errors in the event viewer.
I am using a Linksys router (almost all ports firewalled) and have Comcast Cable. HELP!!!
