Freeware alternative to Movie Maker?

Since I was forced to upgrade to Vista, Windows Movie Maker just doesn't work... always the same error stating it can't save the file yada yada yada.

I give up.. it was flakey already under XP.

Anyone know of a Vista compatible freeware AV program?
