Thermaltake 850watt psu blown

My son destroyed a good psu. His os froze on him. So as the side panel of the pc was off at the time. He decieded to remove the connectors to the hd's whilst it was still switched on. So now he has a £16.50 special 750 watt psu in it .

Anyways as the psu has a 3yr warranty on it. 2yrs still to go. I emailed thermaltake about an RMA. They said that it could only be RMA threw the company that I bought it from. Anyways that company is one on the bay. They dont want to know about it. So I'd like to know where do I Stand on getting it replaced.

Re: Thermaltake 850watt psu blown

Problem with ebay is that a lot of stock sold on there is ex-liquidation or insurance right off stock. If that's the case then the PSU is counted as either 2nd hand or scrapped..

But if you have the original invoice (a new item from an ebay trader should have sent you one) you can specify to them that the trader isn;t co-operating and if thermalake do not honour thier warranty then you will be approaching trading standards.

Bloody hell...

I've been careless with my Thermaltake Purepower plenty of times (seen flashes of light on molex connections which results in it cutting itself off, basically shorting it out) and its always been fine... im probably playing with fire like but thats unlucky considering the lack of care i've shown mine, lol.

The psu I bought was brand spankers. I'll send them one more email. If again they refuse to honour their warranty. Not only will I report them. I'll small claims court em as well.

Re: Thermaltake 850watt psu blown

the company where you bought from within the first year legally have to deal with a issue regarding, warranty unless they state that you deal with manufacturer directly as i know this as i worked for, comet we did the same their also when we got our new hoover the other week from argos there is a sticker, on the box that states "DO NOT TAKE BACK TO SHOP" in another words we deal with warranty not the shop.

i would look at the companies t&c's and see if they mention anything about you dealing with the manufacturer not them if nothing, is stated then they have to deal with it after 12 months if it is a warranty that is longer than 12 months then you deal with the manufacturer not the shop.

hope that helps.
