Ipod Mini battery?

Anyone had a go at a DIY replacement before?

Housemate gave me his Ipod mini 1stgen since he's bought a new Mp3 player.
I think the battery is pretty dead in it though.

Going to rockbox it if i can (http://rockbox.org) since it will play more formats than my zen stone (I used to have zen micro but sold it becuase i never use it)

notice the batterys are only a few £ on ebay so was thinking of getting one and taking a shot at doing it.

Re: Ipod Mini battery?

Bit more expensive, but I installed one of these for my sister. Came with easy (if fiddly) instructions.

Re: Ipod Mini battery?

i orderd a cheapie from dealextreme
I think the one in the mini is definatly dead since ive had it on charge a couple hours and it didn't manage to play back more than 10 or so seconds of audio (whilst still plugged into my usb charger) before it died.

Did proove the rockbox flac decoding works tho

Re: Ipod Mini battery?

The 1Gen mini battery change is not too tough but you need to be very careful removing the click wheel molex connector. If you get it wrong you are looking for a new click wheel or a new motherboard as you have managed to detatch too much. I say this speaking from experience. The battery change cost me a new motherboard as well.
Photos 6-7 in Pauls link above. I ended up with the black bit and the white bit still connected together and not connected to the motherboard.

Though when you pull it apart you can have the fun of swapping out the microdrive for a CF Flash Memory card instead. It will hapily work with up to 8GB and the battery life increases dramatically to around 20 hours as it is not powering the microdrive!

Well it didn't cost me anything apart from the battery so if i do kill it At least ive not got much to lose.

Didn't know about the MD for a CF though
is it just a straight swap

would one of these do the trick? http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/prod...ucts_id=104068

Edit:

See what you mean about the Motherboard, ive done that with a gpu fan connector where the socket came off with the plug.

Re: Ipod Mini battery?

There are a good selection of vids on youtube dealing with battery changes.

I just did a G5 30Gb battery swap. It's very useful to have the little plastic tools to get the case unclipped. They make it a lot easier to get in there without scratching or marking.

Apparently it will take a 32Gb card if you want!

That card would be fine.
