Cheap Printer?

Anyone got any reccomendations on a cheap printer, thats also cheap to run.
Doesn't need to do anything fancy just going to be printing forms on it mostly.

I suspect my current HP PSC will become rather expensive to use for that purpose.

Was looking at the Cheaper lasers, the Samsung ML2010R seems to be going for around £40 atm

Compatable Toners' seem to be around the £30-£40 mark and they claim a yeild of around 3000 pages, not sure if It's possible to refill the carts yourself.

Or if anyone has a reccomendation?

Re: Cheap Printer?

I've had a Samsung ML-1210 since 2001, bought it for £99 plus two free toner cartridges..

I then buy toner refils from ebay which costs me about £5 a refill. A very messy job but if you can do it then cheap as hell.

Re: Cheap Printer?

I've got one that I use basically for invoice blanks and suchlike. A good little tool.

Cheap as chips now as well. I'd choose that over an inkjet any time.

Re: Cheap Printer?

Most ink and toner cartridges have a chip in to prevent simple refilling - hence the market for replacement chips like the SmarTek:
http://www.scceurope.co.uk/imaging/ChipCenter/

I like Samsung kit. I have an SCX-5530FN all-in-one here. There's another at work together with several ML-7050N network printers. All seem to be reliable - touch wood!

I'd just hunt eBay for a plentiful supply of toner cartridges and find a printer to suit.

Re: Cheap Printer?

I can recommend the Canon iP4300, which cost me about £60, IIRC. It has an additional black pigment cartridge which is useful for producing higher quality B&W documents than the black dye cartridge can. Also, if you wish to print on CDs, it has a suitable facility.

Until recently it would have failed to meet your cheapness to run criterion because of the cost of the cartridges. However, the third party cartridge suppliers seem to have finally cracked the Canon cartridge chip problem so that you can now get cheap third party cartridges.

Re: Cheap Printer?

I worked out that Given A price of around £30 for a Refurb toner.

It it does 2000 pages (they claim 3000 but im not as optimistic)

then about 1.5p a page + the Power/Paper.

Obivously the inital printing will be more expensive factoring the cost of the printer and that the supplied toner is only good for around 1k pages.

Re: Cheap Printer?

I coudn;t believe it the other day when a local store had color lasers for roughly £100, prices have dropped so much lately.

As far as chips in the toner/ink carts I just use a chip resetter when needed...

Re: Cheap Printer?

I have had a colour laser printer (from argos - £129.99) for a while now it is brilliant. It's a samsung clp300.

Now around £85 from amazon.co.uk

I am not looking at price alone when buying.. quality if my first priority.. I would prefer any cheap HP model.

Re: Cheap Printer?

Cheap printers aren't as bad quality as most make out...they tend to wear out the same as the expensive ones. What is a problem though is spares..

It's easy to get a replacement feed roller, fuser bulb or a PSU for a HP where the cheaper units are sometimes impossible to find.
